Islip High School hosted a teen job and volunteer fair on March 22. Local businesses and government organizations that hire teens, such as American Pool, Camps R Us, Fire Island Ferries, Great South Bay Hospitality, Great South Bay YMCA, Long Island Ducks, Mid-Island Day Camp, Reynolds TowBoatUS, SCOPE Education, Suffolk County Department of Labor, Town of Islip, Village of Babylon, Village of Ocean Beach, Suffolk Y JCC and Youth Enrichment Services, were invited to take part in the job fair. The Alzheimer’s Association, Islip Booster Club and Islip Public Library were also in attendance to recruit teen volunteers for their various community service events.

On the day of the event, students had the opportunity during their lunch periods to visit the job fair, fill out job applications, speak to recruiters and interview on the spot. Teachers and administrators were present to assist students with their soft skills, such as communication and networking, allowing them to properly apply for jobs.

"This is a great opportunity for our students and local businesses,” said business teacher Renee Clock, who organized the fair. “Applying for your first job can be intimidating. By having a job fair right on campus, students are more comfortable approaching the businesses to ask questions and inquire about different job opportunities.”
