Candidate Packets for Election to the Board of Education
Candidate packets for District residents who are interested in seeking election to the Board of Education are now available in the office of the District Clerk. Please contact the District Clerk at 631-650-8211 or DistrictClerk@islipufsd.org for more information or to schedule an appointment for pick up.

Any interested candidates must be at least 18 year of age, a resident of the District for at least one (1) year and a qualified voter (see "Voter Qualifications" section below) of the District. The deadline for submission of completed packets is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023.

 

Absentee Ballot Applications
Application for absentee ballots may be made at the office of the district clerk. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than thirty (30) days before the election (by mail or hand delivery to the Office of the District Clerk, 215 Main Street, Islip, NY 11751). Furthermore, such application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election (May 9, 2023) if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election (May 15, 2023) if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Upon receiving a timely request for a mailed absentee ballot, the District Clerk will mail the ballot to the address set forth in the application by no later than six (6) days before the vote. All absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote, May 16, 2023. PLEASE NOTE: the law allowing voters to apply for absentee ballots on the risk of contracting or spreading a disease-causing illness expired on January 1, 2023. If you have any questions regarding absentee ballots, please contact the District Clerk at 631-650-8211. Persons designated by the Suffolk County Board of Elections as permanently disabled pursuant to the provisions of the Election Law will automatically receive an absentee ballot and need not apply.

Voter Qualifications
You are considered a qualified voter in the Islip School District if you are:

  • a citizen of the United States;
  • at least 18 years of age; 
  • a resident of the District for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election; and
  • not otherwise prohibited under Election Law §5-106.

 

Military Ballots
Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission, or electronic mail in their request for such military ballot application or ballot. Military ballot application forms must be received in the office of the district clerk of the school district no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is (1) received in the office of the district clerk before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country's postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government; or (2) received by the office of the district clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is associated to be not later than the day before the election.
