Each year, Wing Elementary School creates a reading competition for the Pick a Reading Partner initiative to see which team – made up of classes from each grade – can read the most. This year, Wing set a schoolwide PARP goal of reading for 75,000 minutes, which the students amply exceeded.
To celebrate this achievement, the students voted on a Principal’s Challenge, considering fun choices like “Reading Rainbow – Add a Rainbow to the Principal’s Hair” and “Dino-mite Day – Dress the Principal like a Dinosaur.” The overwhelming majority of classes voted, however, for “Stuck on Reading! – Duct Tape the Principal to the Wall,” a happy fate for Principal Catherine Glaser.
“It was a privilege to honor our students’ reading efforts and achievements in such a memorable and exciting way,” Glaser said.
