Commack Road Elementary School held its eighth annual Power of Pink Day on Oct. 20, showing support for breast cancer awareness. Staff wore Power of Pink shirts, and the main entrance was lined with pink ribbons honoring those that have been affected by the disease. Throughout the month, students in Meghan Flynn and Catherine Nieves’ fourth grade class have participated by selling pink bracelets, pink pens and ribbons to raise money for the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition as well as the Jeannette Feminella Scholarship Fund.

“Our goal was to beat last year’s total of $1,050, and as of now, we have raised $2,400,” Nieves said.
