Islip High School Class of 2022 graduates Matthew Hole-Lopez and Madeline Micheletti were recognized for winning the Butch Dellecave Award at a June 12 brunch ceremony held at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.

Named in memory of educator and coach Gaetano “Butch” Dellecave, the awards are presented by the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Newsday and the Butch Dellecave Foundation. Suffolk County athletic directors nominate one male and one female from their high school’s graduating class for the Dellecave award. In addition to athletic excellence, nominees must maintain high academic standards and demonstrate service to their local community. Newsday selects five male and five female finalists from which two countywide honorees are chosen and given $1,000 scholarships. The 22nd annual Dellecave ceremony featured former New York Jets football player Marty Lyons as keynote speaker and honored 103 seniors from across Suffolk.
