During the 2021-2022 school year, teacher Jennifer Beck entered work written by students in her fourth grade class at Islip’s Commack Road Elementary School into the America Library of Poetry contest. Two of her students, Emma Burke and Shea Wirtenson, were chosen. Burke’s “Sunshine” and Wirtenson’s “The Storm” were recently published in the student poetry collection “Expressions,” which is intended to bring critical acclaim to the work of exceptional young poets from across the United States.
