Islip High School celebrated the 14th annual P.S. I Love You Day on Feb. 9, with students and staff donning purple clothing and promoting a culture of kindness, acceptance, compassion and positive mental health. In attendance to offer words of encouragement to students were P.S. I Love You Day cofounder Brooke DiPalma and Suffolk County legislators Steve Flotteron and Sam Gonzalez.

Throughout the week of Feb. 5-9, the high school library’s makerspace provided inspirational activities, resources and books, while Bucs Brew featured coffee specials and the school’s PTSA, L.I. Against Domestic Violence, South Oaks Hospital, Sunrise Counseling and Youth Enrichment Services manned tables in the auditorium lobby during lunch periods. Students created a kindness, love, acceptance paper chain filled with handwritten positive messages, and the high school’s First Responders Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce Club and STAR Club sold bracelets and sweatshirts during the week to raise funds for P.S. I Love You. On Friday, they proudly presented DiPalma with a $300 check to support the organization’s educational programs.

“Everybody in the school made this a weeklong celebration of positivity,” teacher and event organizer Renee Clock said.
