After reading about how scientists study habitats, Amy Contant’s second-grade students at Sherwood recently observed plants in their winter state as part of a science unit on plant and animal relationships. Sherwood fifth-graders marked off sections in an area on the school grounds for the sample study site, while the second-graders broke into groups to observe. They then drew and labeled anything that they observed in their site, including grass, leaves, moss, worms and small holes.
