On Thursday, March 30th, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet will host Christopher Verga, a local historian, writer, and American History lecturer at Suffolk County Community College. Christopher's works include his monthly column in Greater Bay Shore and his forthcoming book, "Bay Shore." Christopher utilized images from local historical societies, private collections, and the African American Museum of Nassau County to author, "Civil Rights on Long Island". The interactive lecture will detail the historic race relations and struggles for equality across Long Island. These historical, sometimes overlooked, events paved the way for milestones, and complications in segregation. The program will be held at the Islip Public Library, 71 Monell Ave, from 700 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale after the event and refreshments provided. For more info, call 631-245-0675 or visit www.isliphamlethistory.org.
