As students disembarked from the iconic yellow buses and family automobiles, they were welcomed back to school on Sep. 2 by district administration, faculty and staff to start the 2021-2022 school year. Excitement resonated throughout the campuses of Wing Elementary, Commack Road Elementary, Maud S. Sherwood Elementary, Islip Middle School and Islip High School as students reconnected with peers and made new friends during this year’s kickoff to the academic year.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dennis O’Hara reported that the start of the school year went smoothly and faculty and students seemed excited to meet the academic challenges of the year ahead. “The administration and faculty have worked diligently over the summer to provide a safe environment and rigorous educational programs for students,” Dr. O’Hara said. “I am confident that the 2021-2022 school year will be a productive and successful year for all Islip students.”
