Briana James was recently named the new principal of Sherwood, replacing Curtis Juengerkes.

She comes to Islip from the Wantagh School District, where she had served as a Wantagh Elementary School assistant principal since 2019. James previously worked since 2008 as a kindergarten and third-grade teacher at Glenwood Landing Elementary School in Glen Head, and as a second- and fifth-grade teacher in Wantagh since 2006.

A Northport resident, she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics at the College of the Holy Cross, her master’s degree in elementary education at Boston College, and her educational leadership certificate from Dowling College.

“I am truly honored to be joining the Islip School District as principal of Sherwood Elementary School,” James said. “I firmly believe that great schools are the result of great teachers, and it is my goal for all of us at Sherwood to continue to work together to provide our children with a rich academic program in a safe, inclusive and emotionally nurturing environment.”
