Prior to the end of the school year, second graders in Patricia Austin’s class at Commack Road completed animal research projects. After months of reading, researching, taking notes and creating a nonfiction book, their work was almost complete. As their projects ended, they began a poetry unit. Each student took the knowledge gained from their research and used it to create shape poems of their animals.
