The high
school honored its Class of 2020 with a spectacular Senior Send-Off on
June 10, as students and their families drove through balloon arches in
the high school and middle school parking lots while being cheered on by
staff spectators as well as the Islip Fire Department and Exchange
Ambulance of the Islips. Pop-up tents and tables were set up to
distribute yearbook, caps and gowns, and gift baskets, and individual
graduate signs were posted on the on grass. A DJ and live drummer added
to the celebratory mood.
“The Senior Send-Off was truly a remarkable day, not only for the
wonderful students of the Class of 2020, but for the Islip school
community as a whole,” said Principal Jon LaRochester. “It is so
important to be able to pull all the positives out of the very difficult
situation we all faced this past spring, and what was displayed at the
parade was simply the very best of Islip. Seeing what this community and
the school district were able to do when we came together was very
powerful, and It provides hope and continued pride as we move forward
toward the end of this pandemic and hopefully towards brighter days.”
