Smart Schools Bond Act Information
Smart Schools Bond Act Information
The Smart Schools Bond Act was approved by New York State voters in 2014. This act authorized $2 billion in funding for schools to improve educational technology and infrastructure. School districts interested in accessing their portion of this funding must submit a Smart Schools Investment Plan to the State Education Department’s Office of Educaitonal Design and Technology for review and approval. Once the plan is approved by that office, schools make the purchase, then submit receipts to NYS to be reimbursed for the expenditures from the Smart Schools Bond funds.
The Islip School District submitted its first Smart Schools Investment Plan, which looked to purchase 1:1 devices for students, in December 2020. This plan was approved, and Chromeboosk and Google licenses for these devices were purchased in July 2026. The District has submitted the receipts and is currently awaiting reimbursement for that purchase.
Looking ahead, the District would like to continue accessing Smart School funds through a new Investment Plan. The link below will take you to a presentation shared with public at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. This presentation outlines plans for the District’s second request for Smart Schools Bond funds.
Your questions and comments about this plan are welcomed and encouraged. You may submit these through the link on the final slide of the above, or by clicking here. You may also send written comments to Islip Administration Building, 215 Main Street, Islip, NY 11751, ATTN: Smart Schools Bond.
As questions and comments are submitted, we will be providing a Q&A document on this page.
