Commack Road Elementary School fourth graders Lyla Addeo, Lily Ahlgren, Makenzy Covelli, Gemma Mormile, Chase O’Reilly and Marleigh Stumme represented Islip in the Parents, Educators, and Kids Festival held on Oct. 22 at Northport High School. At PEAK, 200 student-musicians selected from Suffolk County elementary schools participated in a series of musical workshops led by master educators from across Long Island. Each session highlighted different aspects of a typical general music curriculum. This year, these workshops included singing games, musical theater, parachute, ukulele, chorus, dance cardio and folk dancing.

“What makes PEAK unique is that students participate along with their parents, which helps to foster the bond between parents and their children through music,” Commack Road music teacher Michael Baur said. “It is incredible to watch the joy on a child’s face as they watch their parent sing, dance, play and improvise along with them.”
