Students in Islip High School’s theater arts class presented “Broadway Bound,” a cabaret performance of 25 separate musical numbers, on Oct. 20. Under the direction of Dr. Richard Harris, the students not only rehearsed the vocal performances, but also created the choreography, set up and ran lighting and sound, designed the costumes, and helped manage the stage and props.

One of the production’s biggest highlights was a personal visit to the school by Broadway star Andrew Kober, currently appearing in “Beetlejuice,” who visited the school to work with the students on their performances. Kober, who has also appeared in the Tony-winning 2009 “Hair” revival as well as “Les Miserables,” “She Loves Me,” “Sunday in the Park with George,” “School of Rock,” and most recently, “Beautiful,” also recorded a video message supporting the cast that was played during the performance.

“It was so incredible to gain such specific and helpful feedback from a working equity actor in the industry,” junior Skylar Greene said.

The theater arts class will next perform on Jan. 19 with “Music at the Movies.”The theater arts class will next perform on Jan. 19 with “Music at the Movies.”
