Kindergarten and first grade students at Wing Elementary School gathered on the school’s playground on Sept. 21 to celebrate the annual worldwide Pinwheels for Peace project, which coincides with the International Day of Peace. Continuing a tradition that began in 2005, Wing’s students participated by imagining “whirled” peace through creating and decorating their own pinwheels.

“With each colorful and unique pinwheel, we talked about being peaceful, kind and showing respect for others and ourselves,” school social worker Allison Rutsky said. “We practice problem solving in peaceful ways.”
