Islip Earns NYSPHSAA School of Excellence Recognition

The Islip School District has been named a 2025-2026 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) School of Excellence in recognition of its outstanding commitment to academic achievement through interscholastic athletics.
The prestigious honor is presented to member schools that demonstrate exceptional academic success across their varsity athletic programs during the school year.
The School of Distinction and School of Excellence awards were established to encourage athletic departments across New York State to challenge every varsity team to achieve statewide recognition through the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete program.
To earn the School of Excellence designation, at least 75 percent of a school's varsity teams must qualify as NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Teams by maintaining the required academic standards throughout their respective sports seasons.
"The commitment demonstrated by our member schools to academic excellence continues to be one of the greatest strengths of educational-based athletics," said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. "These awards recognize entire school communities that value success in the classroom as much as success in competition."
The recognition reflects the dedication of Islip's student-athletes, coaches, teachers, administrators and families, who continue to emphasize that excellence extends beyond athletic competition and into the classroom.
