AP Honor RollIslip High School proudly announces its third consecutive Silver designation on the 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll, recognizing the school’s continued commitment to academic excellence and fostering a strong college-going culture. This prestigious honor from the College Board highlights Islip’s dedication to expanding access to rigorous, college-level coursework for all students.

Over the past several years, the district has made expanding advanced academic opportunities a top priority — and the results speak for themselves. Participation in the AP program continues to grow, with more students than ever engaging in challenging coursework and rising to meet high expectations.

Assistant Principal and AP Coordinator Lisa Ward shared, “We are incredibly proud to see our students’ dedication and perseverance honored on a national level. This recognition reflects our steadfast commitment to ensuring every student is fully prepared to thrive in college and to lead purposeful lives beyond graduation.”

AP School Honor Roll Criteria & Islip’s Performance

To earn placement on the AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet three performance benchmarks based on their most recent graduating class:

College Culture
At least 40% of students must take one or more AP exams during high school.
  • At Islip High School, 62% of the Class of 2025 took at least one AP exam, earning a Silver rating in this category.
College Credit
At least 25% of students must score a 3 or higher on an AP exam.
  • Islip exceeded this benchmark with 44% of its graduating class earning a qualifying score, securing a Gold rating.
College Optimization
At least 2% of students must take five or more AP exams, including at least one in 9th or 10th grade.
  • An impressive 18% of Islip students met this standard, earning a Platinum rating.
Principal Dr. Gonzalez emphasized the broader significance of the achievement:
“We could not be more thrilled and proud of our students’ accomplishments. Each year, our students continue to achieve at higher levels of participation and performance.”

2025 AP Scholar Recognitions

Islip High School’s Class of 2025 also earned notable individual honors:
  • 54 AP Scholars
  • 28 AP Scholars with Honor
  • 36 AP Scholars with Distinction
  • 16 students earned the AP Capstone Diploma
  • 8 students earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate
The value of the AP program extends well beyond high school. Participation in AP coursework demonstrates a student’s readiness to succeed in rigorous academic environments — a distinction highly regarded in college admissions. Strong AP exam performance can also translate into college credit, allowing students to accelerate their studies, enroll in advanced courses sooner, and potentially reduce overall tuition costs.

Islip High School’s continued recognition on the AP School Honor Roll reflects not only academic achievement, but a schoolwide commitment to opportunity, access, and excellence.
