Islip High School Hosts Long Island AP Collaboration on Superintendent’s Conference Day
Islip High School served as the hub for professional collaboration on Tuesday, November 4, as the district’s curriculum directors hosted an Advanced Placement (AP) Collaboration event during Superintendent’s Conference Day.
The full-day program brought together approximately 168 AP teachers from 35 school districts across Long Island. This included 20 AP teachers from Islip High School. The event was designed to foster collaboration, resource sharing, and professional growth among educators who teach some of the most rigorous courses in their respective districts.
"To bring teachers here has been a great day of sharing knowledge and building on that collective efficacy; we have made Islip High School a hub for learning and growth," said Islip Superintendent Dr. Dennis O'Hara.
Participants engaged in a wide range of subject-specific sessions and presentations focused on instructional improvement and innovation. The day’s agenda included:
- Albert IO Presentation (Auditorium) – Exploring digital tools and data-driven resources for AP instruction.
- Morning Session: Grading Practices (Individual Subjects) – Teachers examined effective grading strategies and consistency in AP assessment.
- Leveraging AI in the AP Classroom – Presented by the Islip Tech Department, this session explored how artificial intelligence can enhance teaching, learning, and feedback in AP courses.
- Afternoon Session: Best Practices (Individual Subjects) – Educators shared successful classroom strategies, lesson models, and collaborative projects.
“This collaboration strengthened our instructional practices and student outcomes," said Dr. Robert Drysielski, Director of Social Studies and Business for Islip Public Schools.
