Dear Families,
September was a wonderful month at Islip Middle School! Our students are settling into their classes and becoming more comfortable with their routines. It has been inspiring to see them engaging with their teachers and peers as they acclimate to the new school year.
We kicked off the fall season with our Homecoming Spirit Week, and the energy in the building has been incredible. From themed dress-up days to the excitement in the hallways, our Buccaneer school spirit is thriving. Students are encouraged to attend the Homecoming events on October 4th: the parade begins at 12:00 PM on Main Street, followed by the carnival at Islip High School, then the big game begins at 2:00 PM.
This month we had our first student photo session during lunch periods, which was a success! Looking ahead, we are excited for our first Renaissance Raffle, where we will recognize and celebrate student success.
We encourage all of our students to get involved in the variety of activities Islip Middle School offers. Middle school is a time to explore interests and build new skills. Please click here for a list of start dates for our clubs and activities.
We encourage all IMS families to download the ParentSquare app, in order to stay up to date on important information about school programs, events and classes. Make sure to check out Islip Middle School’s Instagram and Facebook page for some fun pictures and videos of life here at IMS!
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make this year one of connection, growth, and celebration for our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Yours in partnership,

Good afternoon Middle School families,
We would like to thank you for a wonderful start. Students, staff, and families have been wonderful. The beginning of the school year is a time of new beginnings and opportunities. A time to become reacquainted with old friends and a chance to develop new relationships. During our advisory meetings with each team in September, we discussed how students can continue to impact the culture of Islip Middle School in a positive and thoughtful manner. Students were encouraged to be supportive, constructive, and kind. And get to know one another. I must say I am grateful for the opportunity to work with and get to know the wonderful students of IMS.
September included student Town Hall Meetings. At these meetings, students were introduced or re-introduced to the idea of being their best self, IMS celebrations, and expectations as well as IMS cell phone practice, bullying, and IMS opportunities for success.
Our Athletics and Fine and Performing Arts have begun to hit their stride. Our clubs will begin in October as we continue to encourage students to be involved with the opportunities offered here at the middle school. Gaining a connection is a sure-fire way to assist students in a quality experience at school socially, emotionally, and academically.
It’s been an amazing start and looking for a spectacular October. Thank you!
Always enjoy,

Dear Islip Middle School Community,
The 2025–2026 school year is off to a fantastic beginning at Islip Middle School! It has been such a pleasure continuing to get to know our amazing students, families, and staff.
This September, we held our Town Hall Assemblies where students and staff came together to discuss how we can uphold our culture of welcoming, learning, and connecting. These important conversations set the tone for a positive and successful year ahead.
We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to all parents and guardians who attended Meet the Teacher Night. Your partnership and support are vital to our school community and the turnout was truly outstanding.
Looking ahead, October marks the official start of our clubs and activities! We strongly encourage all students to get involved—there is something for everyone on our exciting list of opportunities. In addition, our athletics teams are already off to an impressive start, and we look forward to cheering them on throughout their seasons.
Thank you, Islip Middle School community, for making the start of this year so successful. We look forward to the months ahead filled with growth, connection, and achievement!
Sincerely,
David Bodner

Dear Parents and Guardians,
This year has been off to a fantastic start, and we’ve already seen students stepping up with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive attitude. As school counselors, it’s always exciting to see the energy a new year brings, and we’re here to support every student in making this year their best one yet.
The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to build healthy routines that set the tone for academic and personal success. Whether it’s organizing a backpack the night before, setting a consistent bedtime, or carving out time each day for homework, studying, and reading, these small habits help students feel prepared and confident.
We also encourage students to explore their interests and get involved in the school community. Clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities are more than just fun- they help students build friendships, gain confidence, and develop leadership skills. Ask your child what clubs or activities they’ve heard about and help them take that first step to join in.
In addition, our 6th grade students recently participated in a presentation and have been registered for their infinite campus student portals. At this time, all middle school students now have access to their own accounts. We strongly encourage students to log in and check their portals on a weekly basis. This is a great tool for keeping track of assignments, grades, and overall academic progress. Building this habit early can empower students to take ownership of their learning and stay organized throughout the year.
Whether your child is transitioning to a new school, adjusting to increased academic demands, or just needs someone to talk to, we’re here for them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Here’s to a great year ahead!
Warmly,
Ms. Comiskey, Ms. Appel, & Ms. Garren

October brings important opportunities for learning and growth at IMS as we recognize both National Bullying Prevention Month and Red Ribbon Week. Our focus is on fostering kindness, acceptance, and inclusion while empowering students to make thoughtful choices in and out of the classroom. From October 23rd–31st, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week, emphasizing the importance of living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Students will receive daily positive messages about valuing their health, community, and future, and engage in advisory activities such as educational videos and class discussions. To build school spirit, we will host a themed Spirit Week, “Life is a Puzzle, Solve It Drug Free,” giving students a fun and meaningful way to showcase their commitment to healthy decision-making. We are also excited to welcome an Outreach Educator from Cohen Children’s Medical Center during the last week of October. They will deliver engaging presentations on bullying prevention for all students, and our 8th graders will participate in a session on drug awareness and prevention. We look forward to continuing to foster a supportive environment where kindness and healthy choices thrive.
