IMS Music Ensembles Hit a High Note to Start the Year

Posted Date: 9/16/25 (8:27 AM)

More than half of Islip Middle School students are starting their mornings with music as band, orchestra, and chorus rehearsals got underway recently.

Following informational meetings for all music students, instruments and music were distributed, and rehearsals began immediately.

The programs are led by:

  • Band: Mr. Muscara
  • Orchestra: Ms. Bartlett
  • Chorus: Mr. Magale and Dr. Harris
“Not only is music a challenging and fun activity, but multiple studies also show that involvement in music correlates to higher math, reading, and science achievement,” said Michael Hershkowitz, Director of Fine and Performing Arts.

With strong participation and early momentum, IMS musicians are already building skills and community before the first bell.
