Posted Date: 8/24/25 (5:03 PM)

The Islip Schools’ Work-Based Learning Program was in full swing this summer with its annual “Sidewalk Sale,” a hands-on initiative designed to give students meaningful opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world experiences.

The event was more than just a sale; it was a showcase of student growth, creativity, and Buccaneer pride. Students played an active role in planning, organizing, and running the sale, developing critical skills such as teamwork, communication, and customer service.

The Work-Based Learning Program is a cornerstone of Islip’s commitment to empowering students to explore career pathways, strengthen their independence, and build confidence in real-time scenarios. The Sidewalk Sale highlighted how students can thrive when given the space to take ownership of their learning while engaging with the community.

With smiling faces and strong school spirit, the Sidewalk Sale was a proud moment every week during the summer for the Buccaneer community, embodying Islip Schools’ dedication to academic excellence, career readiness, and lifelong learning.
