Islip Points of Pride


The Islip School District is proud of its many students who excel both inside and outside the classroom. Listed below is just a small sample of the many “Points of Pride” that can be found throughout our district.

Academics
•    Islip Middle School Named a “School to Watch” by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform
•    National Merit Semifinalist – Class of 2008 graduate Fatima Daoud
•    National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar – Alexandra Garcia
•    98% of Class of 2008 earned a Regents Diploma, 48% of which were on the mastery level
•    13 Islip High School students were named Advanced Placement Scholars
•    Two High School students received the title of AP Scholars with Honors
•    Ten Islip High School students were named AP Scholars with Distinction
•    94% of seventh graders reached proficiency on the 2008 math assessment
•    93% of fifth graders met proficiency on the 2007 social studies assessment

Athletics
•    Islip High School named a 2007-2008 Scholar-Athlete Team School of Distinction
•    Girls Varsity Soccer Team was the Suffolk County Class A Champions for the fourth consecutive year and League V Champions for the ninth consecutive year
•    Two students awarded Suffolk Zone Fitness Awards – Ryan McKenna and Chelsea Haedrich
•    For the Fall 2008 season, all seven varsity sports teams qualified for the New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award

Art/Music
•    Eight students selected to participate in NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Music Festival
•    All-State Conference musician – Matthue Tompkins
•    Seven students selected for the Long Island String Festival annual concert
•    46 students selected for SCMEA All-County ensembles

Character and Community
•    Students at Commack Road Elementary School recently collected more than 500 pounds of candy for U.S. Troops serving abroad during their “Treats for Troops” campaign
•    Students at Wing Elementary School collected 350 paperback books for U.S. Troops stationed abroad
•    Sherwood Elementary School students recently created gingerbread houses for donation to a local hospital
