For the first time in more than 10 years, Islip’s music department is participating in the Long Island String Festival, with five of the district’s string musicians selected to attend.

The high school’s Shannon Brody and Leah Cyran (prepared by teacher Zachary Butterfield) will perform at the LISFA secondary concert, to be held Jan. 12 at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip.

Commack Road’s Fallon Rao and Natalie Rodriguez (prepared by teacher Rachel Tria) and Sherwood’s Isabella Conzo (prepared by teacher Holly Markee) will perform at the LISFA intermediate concert, to be held Jan. 26 at Northport High School.

“I congratulate these students and all the teachers – music and otherwise – who have made this achievement possible,” said Dr. Jeff S. Dailey, Islip’s interim director of fine and performing arts.
