From a colorful parade down Main Street to a fantastic football game, Islip’s homecoming on Sept. 21 was a testament to a community’s strong sense of pride and superlative school spirit. Clad in purple, students from every district school building marched alongside parents, educators, Board members, new Hall of Fame inductees and high school class floats.

The joyous day kicked into overdrive once the game started, with the Buccaneers manhandling Miller Place from the opening kickoff return. Islip staked out a 35-0 lead by halftime, which featured performances by the kickline, cheerleaders and marching band. The latter enthralled the audience with an elaborate routine featuring bicycles, set to the music of Queen.

The Bucs went on to win 42-13, led by Patrick Mai (highlighted by a 51-yard interception return and a 56-yard punt return, both touchdowns) and Joe Juengerkes (rushing for 81 yards and a TD on 10 carries).
