Fourth and fifth grade students in Christine LeMaire’s and Julie McGarty’s classes at Commack Road, with the assistance of ENL co-teacher Meghan Finnerty, celebrated National Poetry Month this past April, enjoying reading and writing poetry throughout the month. Poems by 14 of the Islip students were entered into the American Library of Poetry’s 2019 Student Poetry Contest and selected to be published this fall in a special book of poetry, “Illustrious.”
