As part of its Pick A Reading Partner program, Wing held its annual Community Reader Day on March 13. Visiting readers had the chance to share the joy of literacy with classrooms of eager listeners.
The guest readers included Board of Education Vice President Tom Leggio, Board of Education trustees Paul Austin and Matthew Clareen, Superintendent Ellen Semel, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Christopher Smalley, Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Town of Islip Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen as well as district administrators, principals and teachers.
“Each community reader brought their own enthusiasm with the book they read, and the students loved it,” said Principal Michael Giacchetto. “This experience reminds students of the joy of reading a great book and is an important step towards the creation of lifelong readers.”
