Giacchetto Appointed as Principal of Wing

Giacchetto Apppointed as Principal of Wing thumbnail101502

Dr. Michael Giacchetto was recently appointed principal of Islip’s Wing Elementary School, replacing Christopher Smalley, the current assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

He previously served for the past four years as assistant principal at West Islip’s Udall Road Middle School, and prior to that as an elementary teacher at South Ocean Middle School and Medford Elementary School in the Patchogue-Medford School District.

Dr. Giacchetto, who resides in Center Moriches, earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Dowling College, a master’s degree in business administration from Dowling College and an advanced certificate in educational leadership from St. John’s University. In 2018, he earned his doctorate in educational leadership, also from St. John’s.

“Educational leadership is a collaborative venture that requires a shared leadership approach to enact the change necessary for success in a school system,” said Dr. Giacchetto. “As the leader of the building, it is my responsibility to create a collaborative culture by being a source of clarity and direction, and a provider of resources.  This takes the focus off of changing an individual teacher and instead focuses on changing the school into many strong, capable teachers working together towards a common goal, the success of all students.”
