High school students in Jesse Eilbeck’s woodshop class recently researched the topic of bandsaw boxes, then created individual designs.

Senior Carly Daccueli chose a teddy bear box design, junior Jack Lepore chose a wave, senior Thomas Mai chose an owl, senior Shane Mulvey chose a semicircle, senior Tommy O’Shea chose a representation of Long Island, junior Jonny Stumpf chose a wolf and sophomore Tyler Vetrano chose an infinity sign.

The students next drew templates of their designs and worked out where the drawers or openings would be. Some featured drawers, others had lids. Each student then considered which material to use, including pine, walnut, cherry and even purpleheart wood, and laminated a set of boards for building the design. A cutting plan was thought out and implemented with the bandsaw, followed by sanding the box and making it ready for finish.
