Meet Islip High School’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The high school’s Class of 2021 valedictorian and salutatorian are Lauren Callaway and Jessica Chan, respectively.

Callaway, who earned a 103.16 weighted GPA, serves as president of the school’s English Honor Society. A Girl Scouts Gold Award recipient, she was chosen for Empire Girls State and Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge. She is a member of Islip’s Science Olympiad and varsity softball and tennis teams. Callaway will attend Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in biomedical engineering.

“I’d like to thank my family, friends and teachers who supported me during the past four years,” Callaway said.

Chan, who earned a 102.89 weighted GPA, serves as vice president of the school’s National Honor Society. She is also a member of Islip’s student government, Mathletes and robotics teams, and Math and English honor societies. Chan will attend Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in computer engineering.

“I am so thankful for my family, friends and Islip for not only supporting me, but offering countless opportunities, which has helped me obtain this great achievement,” Chan said.
