High school sophomore Lianna Rivera recently won a virtual “America’s Got Muppet Talent” contest sponsored by the Barretta Brothers. Gene Barretta is a popular children’s book author and illustrator; his brother Bill Barretta is a famous puppeteer known for his work with the Muppets. The “America’s Got Muppet Talent” finalists performed during the Barretta Brothers’ Oct. 18th vodcast show, with Rivera singing the classic "Rainbow Connection" from the 1979 film “The Muppet Movie.” On their Oct. 22 episode, Rivera was announced as the winner.

“Lianna always goes above and beyond and works so hard as a member of the Islip music family,” said Dr. Rich Harris, Jr., the school’s choral, theater and music theory director. “This award is so well deserved and I am excited to see her future accomplishments as a vocalist.”
