Curtis Juengerkes has been appointed as the new principal of Maud S. Sherwood Elementary School, replacing Chad Walerstein, the district’s current director of technology, innovation and information systems.

Juengerkes has been with the Islip School District for 25 years, most recently as assistant principal at the high school. He also previously worked as a business teacher and coach.

An Islip resident, he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting at St. John’s University, and his master’s degree in secondary education and professional diploma at Dowling College.

“Islip is a special community with great schools, amazing students and gifted staff,” Juengerkes said. “It is a place to develop a sense of compassion for others and an understanding of life. It is where the journey is ignited.”
