On behalf of the entire Board of Education, we were disappointed to learn that the story presented by the Superintendent of Schools at graduation may have come across as the portrayal of a personal anecdote. The Superintendent previously expressed her own regret concerning the matter. We are sorry if this overshadowed what was a wonderful celebration of our Class of 2020. Your determination and perseverance during these unprecedented times is an inspiration to our school community.

I assure you that the Board of Education takes this very seriously and will determine the best measures for addressing this concern.

During Dr. Semel's career here at Islip, we have seen exceptional growth and progress in our schools. It is our expectation that our school leadership will continue our progress towards fulfilling our mandate of the Commitment to Excellence.
