Middle Schooler Katherine Cottral Wins Sustainability Challenge

Middle school student Katherine Cottral recently won first place in the middle school division of the Long Island Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals’ Sustainability Challenge. She was presented with a $150 award for her waste-reduction project, which advocated using household ingredients and buying items in bulk.

“I really enjoyed making my project,” said Cottral. “I got to use a bunch of different skills and explore different things in FACS.”

“I’m so proud of Katherine,” said teacher Natalie DeSena. “She worked so hard and is well deserving of this award.”
