High School Scientists Compete at State Olympiad

Following its third-place finish overall in the county, Islip High School’s Science Olympiad A team competed at the New York State tournament, held from March 10-11 at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Islip’s students earned four Top 10 medals in their events for an overall 31st-place finish in the state.

Top finishers for Islip included junior Julia Hormann and sophomore Matt Southard, earning first place in Forensics; Hormann and Morgiana McDevitt, who came in fifth in Write-It/Do-It; Kevin Lewis and McDevitt, finishing seventh in Towers; and Hormann and Lewis, finishing seventh in Electric Vehicle.
