Business Academy students in the Virtual Enterprise International program competed against 72 other virtual firms at VEI’s Long Island Regional Trade Show at Farmingdale College on Jan. 13.
Islip’s VE students, guided by business teacher Joe Modica, opened their virtual firm, Prestige Worldwide Backyard Entertainment, on Oct. 1, selling various outdoor products such as pools, fire pits, hot tubs and weatherproof televisions.
At the trade show, the students advertised and sold their products to customers and other virtual firms. Prestige Worldwide generated more than $250,000 in sales and won third place for best advertisement.
Selected students also competed in a business plan competition. Prestige Worldwide executives Onur Oztimurlenk (CEO), Marina Magoulas (CFO), John Mullins (president of sales and marketing), John Alvarado (vice president of sales and marketing), Faizan Raheel (CAO) and Madison Rao (CIO) represented Islip, presenting the company’s plan to a panel of judges and placing in the top 10. This earned them a spot competing in the March semifinals, hosted by American Portfolio Financial Services in Holbrook.
