Actors from Broadway Musical Rock of Ages Perform at Islip Middle School

Actors from the Tony Award nominated Broadway musical Rock of Ages visited students at Islip Middle School as part of WSHU Public Radio’s 11th annual “Music in Our Schools” outreach program. The program brings attention to the importance of music education and celebrates the work of music educators. This free performance was brought to the district through a contest promotion held by the radio station, which was won by music teacher Rich Magale.
Cast members Cody Scott Lancaster, Josephine Roberts, Dan Domenech, Tessa Alves, Valerie Stanois and MiG Ayesa sang selections from their hit musical, answered student questions about music and the performing arts, and taught the children a few choreographed moves to the Twisted Sister song “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
The rock musical uses popular songs from the 1980s to tell the story of a small-town girl and a boy from south Detroit chasing their dreams in Los Angeles.
