Islip High School senior Frances Sosa has been named a scholar in the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP), designed to recognize outstanding academic achievement among Hispanic high school students. The NHRP does not provide any monetary award, but the names of all qualifying students are provided to admission offices at colleges and universities throughout the country to encourage the institutions to recruit exceptionally talented Hispanic students and provide financial assistance.

The NHRP recognizes 5,000 academically outstanding students of Hispanic origin every year. Qualification for recognition as a scholar is based on the student's combined verbal, math, and writing skill scores on the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the student's junior year of high school, as well as a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Congratulations, Frances.
