Second-grade students in Mary Bauernfeind’s class at Maud S. Sherwood Elementary School in Islip continued a sweet holiday tradition this year. The students, along with parent volunteers and students from Michele Smaldone’s special education class, gathered together to put their artistic abilities to work as they constructed a large gingerbread house that will be donated to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, and individual houses to bring home and enjoy with their families. Using their creativity and milk boxes as molds, students added graham crackers, candies, and vanilla and chocolate icing to construct the delightfully delicious and sweet houses.
