Throughout the month of December, kindergarten students at Wing Elementary School in the Islip School District got into the holiday spirit and learned the value of giving back by working together to make the holidays a little warmer for those less fortunate. The students participated in a mitten tree project, which donates hats, scarves, and mittens/gloves to the Ronald McDonald House, St. John’s Church, and St. Patrick’s Outreach.
“The children understand the concept of giving, and it is wonderful to see how happy they are knowing they’re helping those less fortunate,” remarked Principal Diane Druckman. Wing is also appreciative of Mary Schatz, a bus driver for Suffolk Transportation, who has donated dozens of handmade hats to the mitten tree over the last few years.
