College Life: 101

Islip High School juniors received a lesson in college during their social studies classes this January, as 17 members of the Class of 2011 returned to share their experiences and offer words of advice. The College Life Program is an annual event organized by the school’s guidance department that invites recent graduates back to participate in small-group discussions pertaining to their lives after high school, as well as the preparations leading up to high school graduation.

A question-and-answer session among the students focused on pressing issues facing college freshmen. Topics discussed included whether the graduates were attending their first-choice school, what the college reps didn’t tell them on their campus tour that they wished they had, the variety of clubs and activities available on campus, roommate issues, dorm life, time management, and campus safety.
