Islip High School girls varsity basketball two-year captain Shannon Duer has earned a spot on the New York State Sportswriters Association All-State Team and has received the prestigious Suffolk County Coaches Association All-County Award.
Shannon is a four-year starter for Islip, averaging 15.6 points, and an unheard-of 17.8 rebounds, per game. With another outstanding year, Shannon led the Lady Bucs basketball team to the Suffolk County Playoffs for the first time in three years. The 2011-2012 season was also the second year in a row that the standout high school junior led New York State in rebounding, earning her recognition as Long Island’s number one rebounder. This year she ranked among the top twenty scorers in Suffolk County.
Shannon is an honor student who has helped the team reach high academic standards as well, with the Lady Bucs named an All-State Academic Team for the third consecutive year!
