Reducing and Recycling

This school year, Islip’s Wing Elementary School, along with its Standards of Excellence Committee, has been fostering green actions to help save our planet. The students have been collecting plastic water bottles in each classroom, then returning them for the five-cent deposit, which they will use to purchase a tree to plant on the Wing campus in the fall. Additionally, students have reduced the number of lunch “trash bags” used each day from eight to four by tossing the garbage, but separately stacking the used cardboard trays. To recognize the students for their actions in reducing and recycling, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi presented the students and the committee with a proclamation.
