In support and recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Islip High School girls cross-country team partnered with the Kings Park High School girls cross-country team to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society. To raise their funds, each school team held local fundraisers by hosting bake sales, accepting donations from local businesses and selling “Track Down a Cure” tee-shirts. On Oct. 2, at their third dual meet of the season, coaches from each team went pink by dying their hair. Together both teams were able to raise a combined donation of over $1,800.
“This was a great and worthwhile fundraiser and both teams hope their donation can help researchers find a cure and better treatments for cancer,” said Islip High School cross-country coach David Claps.
