Islip High School seniors Montana Prechtl and Gabriella Rocco have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. Montana and Gabriella were selected as Commended Students in this prestigious competition based on their outstanding results on the 2011 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Letters of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, were presented by Principal Dr. Eileen Rossman and Director of School Counseling Marcie Garmendia to these scholastically talented seniors. Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise, placing them among the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition. The district congratulates both students on this distinguished honor.
