Fifth-graders at Islip’s Maud S. Sherwood Elementary School showcased their knowledge and their creativity as they participated in the annual Biography Day. In preparation for the event, each fifth-grader was responsible for reading a biography on a famous person (living or deceased), writing a report and giving an oral presentation to their classmates that featured interesting facts about their chosen individual.

On Friday, Nov. 9, the fifth-grade students dressed up in costume emulating their famous person and paraded around the school for their classmates to admire. This year, famous athletes such as surfers Kelly Slater and Bethany Hamilton joined historical figures including Walt Disney and Sacagawea to parade around the Sherwood hallways.
