Senior Signs Letter of Intent

Through years of hard work on the court and in the classroom, Islip High School senior Shannon Duer has received a full scholarship to play basketball at the New York Institute of Technology this coming fall. She plans to major in communications during her time at NYIT.

A member of the varsity basketball team since the eighth grade and captain of the team since her sophomore year of high school, Shannon has been named an All-League, All-County and All-State player, has led New York State in rebounds for the past two years, is the leading scorer in Islip High School history, and has more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career.

“I have been coaching for more than 30 years, and Shannon is the hardest working young lady I have ever coached,” said Islip High School girls varsity basketball coach Dave Goodman. “What amazes me most about her is her focus on teamwork and her great attitude, which spreads to her teammates. When Shannon is on the court, I know we’re in good hands.”

When she is not playing for Islip High School, Shannon is on the court for the Long Island Lightning travel basketball team, which is coached by Greg Flynn.
