Islip High School junior Bryan Ramirez was honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the awards program honors young people across America for outstanding community service activities.

Bryan was honored for his work in creating and organizing “Thrill the World @ Islip.” The event, which has been held the last three years, aims to break the world record for the largest simultaneous “Thriller” dance while collecting food and monetary donations for charity. Since its inception three years ago, “Thrill the World @ Islip” has raised more than $6,000 and 800 pounds of food.

In addition to his Certificate of Excellence, Bryan has qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.
