Going the Distance

Michael Watts, a senior at Islip High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Stony Brook University on a full tuition scholarship. As a member of the Division I Stony Brook Seawolves, Michael will run for the track and field and cross-country teams.

A year-round distance runner, Michael is a member of the cross-country and winter and spring track and field teams at Islip, where he runs the one-mile, two-mile, three-mile and 5k. During his running career as a Buccaneer, Michael has been named All-Eastern, All-State, All-Division and has been a national qualifier in track and field. He is the first runner in the seven-year history of the Islip winter track team to qualify for states.

“Michael is a quality student and athlete,” said cross-country coach Marc Rosado. “He is a very dedicated runner and deserves this honor for all of the work and mileage he has put in over the years.” Track and field coach Ted Blanchard added, “This is the culmination of years of training. Michael is enthusiastic and focused and absolutely deserves this honor.”
